The high energy punk-jazz quartet Acoustic Ladyland are showcasing tracks from their new album, to be released in May. Their sound is defined by the tenor sax of Pete Wareham.

And what a noise – his playing is rough, squawky and vocalised and the band’s music has hints of 60’s avant-garde, Madness, Soft Machine and neglected 80’s US band Morphine, with frequent punk references.

They were so named because they started out by re-working songs by Jimi Hendrix. They’ve since developed their own sound and to devastating effect.
